The launch date for the Women in the Arts & Media Coalition’s 2015 Collaboration Award recognizing Women Working with Women is February 2, 2015. The award is designed to encourage women in the arts and media from different specializations to work collaboratively on the creation of a new artistic work. The aim of the award is to encourage women to work collaboratively with women of other disciplines. Teams of two or more women from two or more Coalition member organizations working together on a creative project may apply for the 2015 Collaboration Award on The Coalition website at www.womenartsmediacoalition.org.

Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival (August 3-9, 2015; New York, NY) - Attention playwrights! The time has come to unpack your short plays and get them ready to submit to the 40th Annual Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival. We are now accepting submissions! Playwrights (not published with Samuel French Inc. or any other major theatrical publisher) are welcome to submit up to 3 plays, each running 10-30 minutes in length. There is a $10 submission fee per play. Application requires the sign off of you as producer, or your own separate producer, who will produce the play to participate in the festival. 13th Annual Fresh Fruit Festival (July 6-19, 2015; New York, NY) - All Out Arts is now accepting submissions for the 13th Annual Fresh Fruit Festival, New York City’s grassroots, multidisciplinary international festival of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer arts and culture. A cornucopia of various forms of artistic expression, the festival will occur July 6-19 at The Wild Project in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Thanks to the generosity of New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and others, there are no submission fees for early applicants, and no performance fees are required. The Fresh Fruit Festival’s goal is to present the whole spectrum of LGBTQ lives as expressed through Performance Art, Dance, Theatre, Video, Film, Spoken Word, Graphic Arts, Music & various other forms of artistic expression. Submissions in all artistic disciplines & lengths are considered for presentation as long as they highlight or showcase a spectrum of the LGBTQ experience, and are finished, self-produced shows. Thespis Theatre Festival (New York, NY) - All Genres of shows are welcome. If your show has already had a run (in theaters or in other festivals) you can still participate, but only with a completely new cast and crew. Duct Tape & A Dream Festival - Roots & Wings Theatrical is currently seeking script submissions and proposals for our eighth installment of Duct Tape & A Dream, our annual festival to present fully-staged workshop performances of new works by emerging artists. Submissions can be short or full length, movement & choreography pieces, mixed media, solo storytelling, music, or anything you dream up... even visual pieces we can hang in the lobby! This is a workshop festival focused on developing the selected works and promoting collaboration between artists, so when applying please keep in mind minimally/easily constructed sets made for a festival setting. Our festival typically takes place in a 60-seat black box with a 36' x 22' foot performance area -- something to consider when submitting movement projects. The King's Head Theatre’s 2015 Adrian Pagan Award (London, UK) - This year the award is open to anyone who has not been professionally produced more than once. We are looking for a good story, well told, that communicates bold ideas, is relevant to our times, and engages in some way with the live nature of theatre. Adaptive Arts Theater Company Monologue Competition (New York, NY) - As part of our ongoing efforts to bring awareness to stories and voices missing from the stage, we are seeking pieces for our newest performance night entitled: I Don’t Belong Here: Theatrical Snapshots from Self-Proclaimed Outsiders. Tron Theatre’s The Progressive Playwright Series (Glasgow, Scotland) - The Progressive Playwright returns returns with readings of plays from up-and-coming playwrights. Each evening, extracts from six plays will be read, with the night culminating in the audience voting for the play that they would like to hear an extended version of at the following event. This event has the theme of DESIRE, with scripts directed by Jordan Blackwood. The audience will also have a chance to hear a fuller version of December's wining script, Confession by Chris Donald alongside scripts from: Molly Ziegler - Getting it (Back), Daniel Cameron - The Anniversary, Jenni Cumming - Security, George Docherty - The Angel and The Manse. Durango Arts Center 10 Minute Play Festival (Durango, CO) - Every year Durango Arts Center Theatre hosts a three-part 10-Minute Play series with a contest from August through February where DAC accepts 10-Play submissions from playwrights–emerging and professional. A staged reading of the Top Five Finalists takes place in the spring followed by the plays debuting in a full production for the 10-Minute Play Festival in the fall.Only original plays, never before produced, are eligible. • Each play should require two to four characters and minimal props and costumes. • The play, exclusive of title and cast pages, may be no more than ten pages. Script submissions should include the following: • An optional cover letter • TWO COPIES OF THE PLAY • $10 entry fee (check addressed to Durango Arts Center). Theatre Oxford 10 Minute Play Contest – Winner receives the L.W. Thomas Award of $1,000 and production of winning 10-minute play. Plays must be original and unproduced and may not exceed 10 pages. Caryl Crane Youth Theatre’s Ronald M. Ruble New Play Festival (Huron, OH) - Each year Caryl Crane Youth Theatre hosts a national playwriting festival, showcasing new plays and musicals suitable for young adults and children. A national search is currently looking for the best and most promising unproduced theatrical works relevant to youth today. The weekend long festival held at the beginning of May each year, consists of three to five staged readings of previously unseen theatrical works and will take place in the McBride Auditorium on the BGSU Firelands campus in Huron, Ohio. A winning work will be chosen through committee/audience/participant voting and the author(s) will receive a $500 cash prize as well as the option of a 3-week workshop of their production during the following CCYT season. There is no submission fee for all plays received before January 15, 2015. A $10 reader’s fee must be included with all works submitted after January 15, 2014, to be eligible for the CCYT Ronald M. **Babes With Blades Script Development Submissions** (Chicago, IL) - The winning script will be produced as part of Babes With Blades’ 2016-17 Season, and the winning playwright will receive a $1000 cash prize. U.S. and International submissions accepted. Submission REQUIREMENTS – The author must observe and adhere to the submission requirements: 1. Only FULL LENGTH submissions will be accepted: 75 – 120 minutes (at least 60 pages) in length. DO NOT send incomplete submissions, excerpts or a synopsis. 2. The moment depicted in the inspirational image must be dramatized/incorporated in the play. 3. Both all-female and mixed-gender casts will be considered, but women must be in most/all of the primary roles and women must be featured in most/all of the combat. 4. All submissions must be new, original works, inspired by the topic of the contest. Previously written, workshopped, published or performed submissions will not be considered. Please do not insert the contest image into an existing script. Please Consider: 1. Fights are a big part of what we do, so their inclusion in scripts is important as long as they serve the story and the characters 2. We typically perform in black box theatres on limited budgets. Giant Cherry Productions LGBT Playwriting Contest (London, UK) - Giant Cherry Productions are pleased to announce the launch of their new annual LGBT Playwriting Contest! The premise is simple: we are on the lookout for the next great gay play with LGBT characters, stories or themes. Three scripts will be selected as finalists and then performed as staged readings in London in Autumn 2015. Of these three finalists, one overall winner will be chosen and have their play produced by Giant Cherry Productions as a full theatrical production in Spring 2016. The three finalists will receive the following: 1) Promotion of themselves and their plays on the Giant Cherry Productions website and our social media channels as well as to our network of theatre professionals and industry contacts. 2) An invitation to attend castings for their play, attend table reads, workshops and rehearsals. 3) Having their play performed as a staged reading to an invited industry audience as part of a three night showcase in London in Autumn 2015. THE WINNER will receive all of the above as well as having their winning play produced by Giant Cherry Productions for a full theatrical run in London in Spring 2016. We are looking for plays that fit in with Giant Cherry's manifesto of staging exciting, compelling new LGBT works. They can make us laugh, make us cry, they can be controversial, they can push the envelope. Lunchbox Theatre’s Suncor Energy Stage One Festival (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) - Each year, with the generous support of Suncor, Lunchbox Theatre is able to workshop scripts through the Suncor Energy Stage One Festival. All chosen playwrights receive dramaturgical support, a workshop with a professional director and actors and either a closed or public reading, depending on the stage development. Lunchbox Theatre is currently inviting playwrights to submit one-act plays for consideration. All plays must eventually run approximately 50 minutes. Submissions are not limited to comedies and musicals but content should be suitable for Lunchbox Theatre audiences – excessive use of foul language or nudity may limit the possibility of production. Midland Community Theatre Mike McLaren Script Competition (Midland, TX) - Mike McLaren, a long-time MCT volunteer and Permian Basin celebrity, loved a good comedy—whether he was onstage or in the front row. To honor his memory, Mike’s theatre family created a script competition to encourage playwrights to create new comedy scripts suitable for production in community theatre. Since 1989, over 2000 plays have been entered. Authors have come from almost every state in the Union, and a dozen countries. Many Finalists have published their scripts or been produced by other theatres in the US and abroad! To submit a script to the competition: 1. $10 entry fee. US funds, no cash. If script is emailed, payment must accompany the completed entry form by mail. 2. If mailed, send a Word document or PDF file on a CD (each script on a separate CD). 3. New American Theatre One Act Festival (Culver City, CA) - Award recipients receive a full production of the play in Los Angeles produced by The New American Theatre at the Odyssey Theatre. Performance of the piece will be under the supervision of Jack Stehlin, utilizing the talents of the acting company of the New American Theatre. All playwrights whose work makes it to the level of semi-finalist will be given first consideration for any full-length work they may have to be included in the New American Theatre Full-Length reading series, which takes place in January and February. Accepting one act plays which have not been previously produced in Los Angeles, CA (plays with simple staging requirement s are favored). Running time must be twenty-five minutes or less. Rough Writers New Play Festival (Colorado Springs, CO) - The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center is proud to be producing our bi-annual Rough Writers New Play Festival in the spring of 2015. This two week-long festival will feature readings of new scripts submitted by playwrights worldwide. Playwrights whose work is included in the festival will have the opportunity to have readings of their scripts in front of an audience with a moderated talkback session immediately following. A panel of theatre professionals will adjudicate the submissions. In an effort to celebrate the FAC’s “Year of Georgia O’Keeffe”, we ask that this year’s submissions be related to the life and/or the work of Georgia O’Keeffe. The plays may utilize Georgia O’Keeffe as a character, use her art as a springboard for the story or, in a larger sense, explore the lives and art of groundbreaking women. The submissions may be full-length, one-act or 10-minute plays or musicals. Submissions must be in a state of development, and not have a history of productions. Playfest – Harriett Lake Festival of New Plays at Orlando Shakespeare Theater (Orlando, FL) – Seeking new full-length plays that speak to the human condition in our fascinating and complicated contemporary world. HRC Showcase Theatre (Hudson, NY) - Each submitted play should be previously unpublished, run no more than 90 minutes (excluding intermission), require no more than six actors, and be suitable for presentation as a staged reading by Equity actors. The Relentless Award (NYC) - The Relentless Award, established in honor of Philip Seymour Hoffman and his pursuit of truth in the theater, is the largest annual cash prize in American theater awarded to a playwright in recognition of a new play. First Acts: New Plays in Development - Are you a playwright developing a new performance piece and in need of financial and technical resources? Read more for an exciting opportunity from Kupferberg Center for the Arts in Queens NYC. The “First Acts: New Plays in Development” series supports theater artists who are in the early stages of developing new performance pieces. “First Acts,” which is a project of the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at the exceptionally diverse Queens College, aims to amplify the voices of playwrights who are writing from minority or immigrant perspectives, in other words, voices that are not often heard in mainstream theater. By offering financial as well as technical resources for new play development, this program helps playwrights work through the question “what does my play need now?” “First Acts” supports the Queens College campus and community by providing relevant artistic programming and allowing for inter-disciplinary conversations and interactions on a wide range of topics. It also offers its audiences the rare opportunity to connect directly with art makers, and to be active participants in their processes. All performances are free and open to the public. Funding is made possible through the generosity of the Natalie Bailey and Herbert J. Kirshner Foundation. Awards range from $1000 to $2500, depending on the scope of the project. The award is given directly to the grantee, and can be used at the grantee’s discretion for such expenses as actor, playwright and director stipends, extra rehearsal space, props, costumes pieces, etc. A detailed projected budget should accompany the application. Nonprofit organizations that meet the eligibility criteria are invited to apply for funding to help defray costs related to the presentation of touring performing artists in underserved communities. Cultural understanding is at the heart of this program. Artists participate as seekers, as cultural visionaries, and as living liaisons to the traditional and contemporary cultural life of Japan. They also serve as connectors who share knowledge and bring back knowledge. Their interaction with the Japanese public and the outlook they bring home provide exceptional opportunities to promote cultural understanding between the United States and Japan. Artists should have compelling reasons for wanting to work in Japan, and they should do preliminary research to identify contacts there. The Commission encourages artists to consider collaboration with Japanese colleagues, as appropriate for the artistic field. Artists are free to interact with artists anywhere in the country. While many artists chose to remain in Tokyo, others have undertaken their residencies in Kyoto or other cities, and still others have worked in rural settings or have visited a number of sites relevant to their work. Upon their arrival in Tokyo, artists will be predominantly on their own during the three to five month residency period; however, International House of Japan provides in-depth orientation materials, expert advice and professional contacts, as well as some logistical support during the residency period. Kenyon Playwrighting Conference (Kenyon, OH) - Immerse yourself in the craft of playwriting surrounded by some of the most exciting early-stage play development in the U.S. and U.K. You will write every day, hear your work read in the evenings, and interact with the creative teams from powerhouse companies and three commissioned playwrights in residence. HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP) 2015 (NYC, NY) - HERE has been one of New York’s most prolific producing organizations since 1993, and today, stands at the forefront of the city’s presenters of daring new hybrid art. Hemera Foundation’s The Tending Space Fellowship Program - The Tending Space Fellowship Program for Artists was developed with the view that art has the capacity to infuse the experience of everyday life with awareness. The aim of the program is to nurture the creative practice of seeing things as they are, to cultivate that awareness, and to live and create from this insight.
